TVR Grantura Mk1 body restoration

Ian Burford’s Coventry Climax powered TVR Grantura has gone into the body shop for the restoration of its fibreglass body. It has decades worth of cracks, filler and paint layers so we are taking it right back to the original fibreglass to be repaired, prepped and repainted ready for the 2019 race season. The car is a rare and very early TVR with a 1097cc Coventry Climax FWA engine and drum brakes all round.

TVR Grantura II back in action

For the past year or so we’ve been recommissioning an old TVR Grantura race car. The car has previously competed in the UK at Goodwood Revival but was in need of some serious TLC and fresh race preparation. We had to remake part of the rear chassis as well as re-wiring, fitting a new bespoke fuel tank, fitting door and harness bars to the roll cage, properly fitting a pair of Tillett race seats, replacing brake line, gauges, fuel and ignition systems, extinguisher system and more. The prep is now complete and we’ve had the car out at Brands Hatch for testing and it’s been to France for a hill climb. There are plans to bring the engine up to spec over the winter before the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique in 2019.

TVR Grantura fresh race preparation

The white TVR Grantura has been undergoing a fairly extensive race preparation. Although the car is already a race car and has been raced recently at Goodwood Revival the level of preparation is not quite up to scratch. For example, the seats were mounted to the fibreglass floor and even though there was a reinforcement plate underneath it would not have offered the level of safety we are happy with. As an alternative we have welded solid lengths of steel between the front and rear chassis tubes with captive nuts on the underside. The FIA Tillet racing seats now mount to this steel which means they are directly attached to the chassis. Among a number of other things the car will be getting a new fuel tank, pump and regulator and some new gauges in the dashboard.

BMC powered TVR Grantura joins the team

A second TVR Grantura has joined the CCK team although this one is a later BMC B-series variant rather than the early Climax engined version of Ian Burford. There is a bit of prep work needed to bring this one up to spec and we look forward to seeing it in action in 2018.

TVR Grantura-Climax

The Coventry Climax engined TVR Grantura of Ian Burford is nearly ready to race. It is now mechanically sound so today we warmed it up and ran it on the rolling road to check everything out. The carburettors appear to be well setup with the correct mixtures. There are a few more jobs to finish off before the car is ready to race.
