Triumph TR4 for Historic Road Sports Preparation

This Triumph TR4 has been stored for many years and has frankly seen better days. It was raced some years ago and everything still works as it should. However, it is tired and needs some proper attention before hitting the circuit. The owners plan to compete in the HSCC’s Historic Road Sports Championship. The suspension and brakes are being stripped and rebuilt. The engine is largely ok although we are rebuilding the cylinder head with new valve springs and fitting a new head gasket and water pump. Among many other small tasks we will be fitting a full height windscreen, making a rollcage and fitting a hard top.

CCK supports Julian Balme’s return to Historic Road Sports

Designer, writer and petrol head Julian Balme first started racing 30 years ago in Historic Road Sports. Now Julian can usually be found behind the wheel of his 1954 Lincoln Cosmopolitan “Wooly Bully” but he is about to take a leap back into Historic Road Sports with a borrowed Marcos 1600. The reason for this is for Julian to return to his racing routes and to write a big feature for Classic and Sports Car Magazine on the Historic Road Sports Championship including tips for those starting out in historic racing. The car has been kindly loaned by Bob Pomeroy and will be prepared and supported by CCK at the next 3 HSCC race meetings. The car may not be shiny but it is solid and well built. Owner Bob Pomeroy has a long history of racing, even our own Shaun Rainford spannered for Bob when he ran a TR3 in the Birkett 6 hour Relay back in the early 80’s. First race for Julian will be with HSCC at Silverstone on May 16th and 17th.

Oulton Park Gold Cup

The rain failed to drown the great atmosphere at one of the seasons best events. With four cars to run in two different races we had plenty of work to do. Ian Burford and Larry Tucker were racing a Lenham Midget and Ashley Midget respectively in the Historic Road Sports. Despite a wet qualifying both drivers competed well with Ian securing 1st in his class. Dave Griffiths and our own Shaun Rainford were competing in the Historic Touring Car race. Dave in his venerable Standard Vanguard and Shaun in the irrepressible Volvo Amazon. Both enjoyed the competition greatly giving the Cortina’s and Alfa Romeo’s a run for their money. Dave finished a very respectable 3rd in his class. I think we will definitely be returning next year.
