We’ve been given the task of repairing the back end of a rare 1980’s Formula Ford chassis. Very little information seems to be available but we know it to be a Mantis FF1600 chassis built by Jim Lee Racing. We are currently reconstructing the back of the chassis and, fingers crossed, everything thing will line up once complete.

Formula Ford 1600 chassis repair
We have a Formula Ford 1600 in for a chassis repair this week. The tubular steel chassis is brazed together which gives it some flexibility and prevents the chassis cracking under stress. We are replacing the two tubes which locate the front of the engine. One of which has cracked and has been previously welded. We will remove and replace one tube at a time, brazing the new tube in before removing the second to make sure everything remains in perfect alignment.
