Our trusted Volvo PV544 race car finally gets it’s engine back. The full race engine has been rebuilt after the oil seal from the pickup pipe went array causing damage to the bearings. This car’s race history goes back to the 1960’s and has even made it on the podium at Goodwood revival making it very special indeed. For anyone who is interested the car is available to buy and would be eligible for a Goodwood Revival invite in 2019.
The week following Goodwood Revival we were packing up and heading out to Spa with the Jaguar XK140. A new full race 3.4 litre engine from Nick Finburgh was delivered less than a week before the classic Belgian event. The engine went in, the car was prepped and transported out to Spa for the Motor Racing Legends Woodcote Trophy race in support of the famous Spa 6hour race. Qualifying took place on Friday with the race on Saturday. The new engine proved itself immediately with 20 seconds coming off the previous years best lap time. Unfortunately one of the 1/2 shafts broke just before the end of the race. Back in the UK the car is now getting prepped for the Algarve Classic Festival at Portimao in Portugal.
The Ford Falcon has come a long way in the last 2 weeks. The car has been partially stripped and the underside has been media blasted and etch primed. It then went in the body shop where we’ve welded up a few holes, seam sealed it, epoxy primed and painted in Wimbledon White. Next up is to rebuild the axle and suspension.
A very interesting project has arrived here at CCK. The car is one of a Myriad of MG based specials that were raced around the world during the 50’s and 60’s. This one is the ex-works racing car from the Australian firm Milano. It is based on an MG J2 chassis and features a fibreglass body styled after the Ferrari 750 Monza. The car is small and light with ample power provided by the 1500cc MG XPAG engine. The car received a quick prep prior to its first outing at the GRRC track day at Goodwood. There is a lot more work to be done before it’s ready to satisfy the scrutineers but the first race is planned for Mallory Park on September 2nd.
After a number of years in build this Sebring Sprite is finally off to be with it’s owner in the USA. It started out as a rusty Frogeye Sprite body shell which we restored and advertised for sale. It was bought by a lovely chap in the USA with a passion for British sports cars. He wanted to build a proper aluminium bodied FIA Sebring Sprite here in the UK and have it shipped back to the USA. Most of the parts were sourced through Martin Ingall and the car was assembled here at CCK. We also made a roll cage for it and the Sebring bonnet. Right now it is in a container somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean.
