74th GRRC Members Meeting

A successful Goodwood weekend at by all accounts albeit a little cold. The wind down the pitlane was brisk but all our drivers and both our cars went out and performed admirably. Some modifications to the Rover knocked 1 second of last years lap time. Riorden Welby had a stellar drive on Saturday making up 12 places. On Sunday the driving duties were shared with race car engineering royalty Adrian Reynard. The BMW 1800ti of Stuart Patterson had a good run despite the race being cut down to 10 minutes due to stoppages during the day. As in previous years the event was superb and stands up as one of the seasons best. Already looking forward to the 75th.Rover SD1 Goodwood Members Meeting Rover SD1 Goodwood Members Meeting 2BMW 1800ti Goodwood Members Meeting 2 BMW 1800ti Goodwood Members Meeting

Rover SD1 Testing ahead of 74th Members Meeting

We spent Tuesday getting rather chilled at Goodwood Motor Circuit testing the Rover SD1 ahead of the GRRC’s 74th Members Meeting. Owner Riorden Welby was putting the latest adjustments through their paces and it gave the 2nd driver, single seater race car engineer, Adrian Reynard a chance to get accustomed to a large V8 saloon car. Adrian has a long history with Formula Fords but his lap times came down quickly in the big saloon. We’ve got a little fetling to do now before the race next weekend. Thanks again to Liz Powell for the great photographs.

Group 1 Rover SD1 airbox and race prep

The Group1 Rover SD1 is back in one piece. We’ve fabricated an airbox around the carburettor to help supply fresh cold air. A newly rebuilt gearbox has also been fitted. Next step is to get it on the rolling road and see what it is doing. We will then swap the silenced exhaust for a straight through system and re-tune the engine for maximum performance for Goodwood’s 74th Members Meeting.

Fuel tank fitted in the SD1

The new fuel tank has been fitted. We built a frame which bolts to the uneven boot floor and strapped the fuel tank to it. A new cover has been made with an access panel for the fuel filler.
