CCK Goodwood Track Day

Despite the damp weather a great day was had by all who attended the first CCK Historic Goodwood Track Day. The event was organised in partnership with James Turner and Fuel Consulting Ltd and attracted a fantastic variety of machinery from a 1917 Le France to a Mk1 Lotus Cortina and Mini Cooper S. We brought down a selection of our own cars including the Volvo PV544, Lenham GT SS1800 and MG1100. We brought ‘Lumbertubs’ with us for a shake down after a misfire caused an early retirement for Ian Burford in the Castle Combe race 2 weeks prior. James Turner was there with his freshly repaired Ford Zodiac. He seemed to be enjoying the car very much spending a lot of time sliding it across the wet track. Nick Swift brought his latest Mini Cooper S out for a shake down. It has only just been put together and according to Nick will be the car to beat his beautiful Fiesta Yellow Mini of 2009 Goodwood Revival fame. We also had Peter Blanchett and his Austin A50 as well as a BMW E36, a Caterham 7 and a Jaguar E type. Thanks of Course to James Turner and to Goodwood for helping to make this day happen.

Wet & Wild HRDC at Castle Combe

A very wet day was had by all. More of a boat race than a motor car race. CCK were there in full force representing 5 cars in the first event of the HRDC calendar. James Turner in the CCK MG1100 had great race in TC63 qualifying 12th and finishing in 9th overall. James Turner and Darren Turner were set to share their Ford Zodiac for the Touring Greats race. On his second lap of qualifying Darren got hit in the side after another car span out in the wet. This shunt saw the end of the Zodiacs racing for the day which was a real tragedy as Darren managed to qualify 3rd after only one lap. Had this not happened the Zodiac could have certainly achieved a podium finish if not a win. Dave Griffiths entered both TC63 and Touring Greats. His TC63 race was going very well until he made a move for 7th position which ended in some late braking sending the Vanguard off the track and in to the wall. Luckily the damage wasn’t too bad and he was able to finish the race. Peter Thompson did well in the GTS65 to finish 3rd in class in his Marcos 1800GT. Unfortunately Ian Burford’s race was cut short in Lumbertubs first outing since restoration due to a misfire.  Overall we all had a great day and now we’ve dried out it’s time to get to work. Bodywork damage to the Zodiac and the Vanguard will be addressed as well as some further development to Lumbertubs.

Preparation for HRDC Castle Combe

The 2012 season for Historic Racing Drivers Club is about to begin. The first race at Castle Combe is Easter Monday. We have 4 cars running in this race and are busy getting them prepped now. Racing this weekend is Ian Burford in his Austin-Healey Sprite “Lumbertubs” in Grand Touring Greats, David Griffiths in his Standard Vanguard in Touring Greats, James Turner and Darren Turner in their Ford Zodiac also in Touring Greats and lastly James Turner has hired the MG1100 for a drive in the TC63. Best of luck to all drivers this weekend.

Two cars prepped for Burford

We are in the finishing stages of preparation of Ian Burford’s Sprite based racers. The first is Lumbertubs. Named after the street it was built in back in 1963. It features a one of a kind aluminium roof and GT back with a Sebring Sprite bonnet. It has genuine period race history and will be back on track this season with the HRDC. Ian’s other car is his well known Lenham Le Mans, previously owned by Barry “Whizzo” Williams.
