Peter Warren returns to Healey 3000 restoration

Peter Warren has returned to the CCK workshop to resume the restoration of Shaun’s Austin-Healey 3000 shell. He has a lot of work to do as this shell has plenty of rust, but needless to say Peter will do a grand job bringing this big Healey back to the road. Watch this space for updates and progress on the build.

Motorsport in the South East of England

The South East has always had a rich motorsport history. From Goodwood to Brands Hatch with a plethora a sprints, hill climbs and rallies in between. The Brighton Speed Trials are regarded as one of if not the longest running motorsport event, the first race being held in 1905. Brighton has played host to many a great racing driver over the years including Stirling Moss and John Cooper. Just up the road the Lewes Speed Trials were held between 1925 and 1939 and saw names such as Sydney Allard and Rob Walker racing across the South Downs. Denis Jenkinson saw his first race at Lewes in 1936 and was hooked. The Firle Hill Climb is little known now but saw some fantastic racing in its day. I have assembled a few period photos here from Brands Hatch, Lewes, Brighton and Firle.

Building a Nash Metropolitan Race Car

We’ve started building our Nash Metropolitan race car. The Nash is getting assembled piece by piece. Ian sprayed all of the various components in black 2k or Berkshire green ready to go onto the car. We thought we’d lost the speedo until a final box of parts showed up in storage. Grahams installed the hydraulics and the master cylinders as well as the dashboard, tail lights and various other bits and bobs. I’ve been working on the trim, replacing the warped door card backing with plywood and modifying the rear trim panels to fit around the roll cage. We also received our replica 1956 California number plates. Looking forward to seeing this out at Goodwood Revival.
