We’ve got two BMW 1800 ti’s prepped for next Mondays track day at Brand Hatch. Stuart Patterson and Paul Bartley will be driving their ex-Martin Hines car and Tim Abbott will be getting to know his newly acquired ex-Richard Postins car. Fingers crossed for dry weather.
Alpina update: Bespoke BMW E9 CSL Batmobile Rollcage
We made a bespoke roll cage for this BMW E9 CSL race car. The cage is made from 45mm CDS tubing to FIA regulations. The reason this car required a bespoke roll cage is because it is an original car with period history. In period, the car raced with an aluminium roll cage. However, we can’t use aluminium roll cages anymore. The new bespoke roll cage was made to resemble the original and to use the original mounting locations. This way we don’t have to disturb the history of the car.
As well as the bespoke BMW CSL roll cage we built for this car we also supply and fit the Custom Cages Historic T45 roll cage.
Cheetah Progress
A lot of progress has been made over the past couple of weeks. The body work has been fitted, the roll cage has been fabricated and welded to the chassis and much of the aluminium paneling for the chassis has been made. The seat and pedal box are both in place now and we are currently working on the steering column.
Triumph TR4 race preparation
Although Dave Griffith’s newly acquired Triumph TR4 is a well proven and successful historic racer it is showing some signs of wear and tear. Before the season ends we are giving the car a fresh prep. New front brakes were in order along with a better rev counter, light weight Recaro seat and Sabelt harness. More work will be carried out over the winter.
We welcome Tim Abbott and his BMW 1800TI to the team
Local car enthusiast Tim Abbott has spent some time racing Caterham’s but really wanted to get into something historic. He has consider many vehicles and at last the right opportunity has come along in the form of a 1965 BMW 1800ti. The ex-Richard Postins car is a well campaigned and successful racer having competed at Goodwood Revival and winning a U2TC championship. The car has not been used for a couple of seasons so the first thing to do is give it a thorough prep before Tim takes the car out at Brands Hatch for a shake down. We welcome Tim to the CCK family and look forward to racing with him. With Tim’s new acquisition we now have two BMW 1800ti’s to run next season.
