Lumbertubs to FIA spec

Over the Winter we are carrying out the necessary work to ensure that Lumbertubs conforms to FIA spec and apply for HTP papers. The decision was taken by Ian Burford to expand the little Healey’s eligibility. An aluminium roof is mandatory for an FIA Sebring Sprite and as Lumbertubs was built in period with an aluminium roof we thought that FIA papers would be most beneficial. The conversion involves changing out the rear axle for the narrower wire wheel axle and changing the front discs. This requires some custom machining and fabrication as well as new hubs and Spitfire discs. The engine is restricted to 1000cc but we haven’t yet gotten that far. The new axle is in place now and the fabrication work for the front discs is underway. You can also see the recently fitted and very rare copper coloured adjustable lever arm dampers.

HRDC Mallory Park finale.

The last race of the HRDC 2012 season was held last Sunday at Mallory Park. We were there with Dave Griffiths in the Standard Vanguard, James Turner in the Ford Zodiac, Ian Burford in the Sebring Sprite “Lumbertubs” and sharing the drive in “Bumble” the MG Magnette was Julius Thurgood and Rupert Keegan. Dry conditions and some sunshine made for a very pleasant close to the season. Racing was top class as usual with some strong results from all of our drivers. In the Touring Greats race Dave Griffiths moved further up, qualifying 11th, finishing 8th overall and 2nd in class B. First in class B and 4th overall was James Turner in the Zodiac. Julius Thurgood managed to weave his way from 19th up to 14th in the MG Magnette. In Grand Touring Greats Ian Burford made a big jump up the grid qualifying 7th and finishing 6th. Rupert Keegan drove “Bumble” in the Allcomers race finishing 7th. We have had a great year and have thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the competition that Julius Thurgood and the HRDC has provided. We are looking forward to 2013 and another great HRDC season.

Preparation of Lumbertubs

Lumbertubs is at CCK for race preparation. We’ve put a new bonnet on the car with the classic BRM paint job so not to damage it’s original. We are building an engine for it and will also be setting up the suspension. Lumbertubs was built in the 60’s and features a custom made aluminium GT roof and a fibreglass Sebring bonnet.
