Building a fast road engine for a TR4A

Last week we began rebuilding a TR4A engine for Paul Anderson. He is restoring the vehicle but decided to bring the engine to us. We will be fitting 89mm pistons and liners, a slightly hotter camshaft and doing a little work on the cylinder head. The increase in capacity should make the biggest difference with a flowed head and camshaft to give it that little bit extra. So far the block has been acid dipped and is awaiting the new liners. The crankshaft has been ground and is now getting balanced along with the flywheel, clutch and conrods.

Triumph TR2 Historic Race Engine

We’ve just completed a Triumph TR2 historic race engine. The original block was stripped down and acid dipped. A new set of 83mm liners were sourced along with a custom made set of forged aluminium racing pistons with a custom intruder on the top. The compression ratio is a little over 11:1. The bottom end is all steel and balanced to within 0.5 grams. The cylinder head is one of our own which is flowed and ported with bigger valves, bronze guides and competition double valve springs. We’ve fitted a 320 degree camshaft. We will see what power it makes on the rolling road once the engine goes in the car. If you wish to discuss a historic race engine please email.

1310cc historic race engine for Ian Burford’s Lenham Midget

Ian Burford’s new 1310cc historic race engine is ready to go into his Lenham Midget race car. This engine features a steel crank with our own steel conrods, forged Omega pistons and one of our own full race cylinder heads. The bottom end has been balanced with a steel flywheel and F3 type racing clutch. Ian has competed successfully in the HSCC’s Historic Road Sports Championship for many years now. Nash Metropolitan gets a new race engine

Over the past couple of months we have been working on an all new engine for our Metropolitan. We have spared nothing this time around. A billet steel crankshaft from Arrow, a set of billet steel con rods and a billet steel flywheel have all been meticulously balanced to within 0.5grams. Omega forged aluminium pistons and camshaft that will see us through to 8000rpm. We are aiming to get the car out on track in July. We’ve changed the rear springs since the cars last outing so will be anticipating some improved handling as well as the extra grunt.

Building race engines – Triumph, Fiat, BMW

The past few weeks has seen a varied range of race engines in build shop. We are in the process of building a TR2 race engine which will feature an all steel bottom end and forged pistons. A Fiat 1500 engine has been refreshed and received a new camshaft with our custom grind and a new bigger valve cylinder head. We are also rebuilding an 1800cc BMW M10 race engine.
