1380cc race engine build

1380cc race engine build

One of the engines we’ve been working on this winter is this 1380cc race engine build for an MG Midget. Last season the owners previous engine failed, somewhat catastrophically. With a new block sourced we built up a new motor using some of their existing components including their already race modified cylinder head.

We carried out the offset boring to 1380cc at our in-house machine shop, Southern Rebore Services. Piston are light weight slipper type and the con rods are billet steel. The rotating assembly was fully balanced prior to assembly. Next, we installed a Swiftune camshaft and vernier timing gear. The cylinder head was rebuilt and fitted along with a set of 1.5:1 roller tip rockers. Once this 1380cc race engine is installed we will get the car on the rolling road.

Fast road engine build for supercharged Austin A35 van

We just finished this engine build for the Chadder & Co. Austin A35 van. Starting from a 1275cc MG Midget block it has been over-bored and fitted with Omega forced induction pistons, ARP fasteners, steel flywheel and 285 camshaft. The head has been fully modified by Vmaxscart ready for their supercharger conversion and on top of that we’ve fitted a set of aluminium roller rockers from Mini Sport. This little van will really fly.

Riley RM engine rebuild

We’ve rebuilt the engine for this Riley RM this year. The 1.5 litre twin cam engine is essentially a pre-war design with white metal supporting the crankshaft instead of the more modern shell bearings we are used to seeing. It takes a little longer with an old engine like this as there is more work involved and there isn’t always access to new parts. The engine is an interesting design with two camshafts in the block actuated the valves via push rods and rocker arms.

Classic Mini engine building service

The BMC ‘A’ Series engine is one of our specialties, having built and raced Sprites, Midgets and Minis for years. Road, rally and full race engines, we can build to your required specifications. We currently have two Mini engines in the assembly shop. One will be a ‘A+’ road engine, the other a fast road small block showcasing all that the 60’s tuning companies had to offer. This little 998 has been bored out to 1040cc and will receive a genuine Speedwell Alloy head and Shorrock supercharger. This will all sit on top of a magnesium cased Colotti 5 speed gearbox. Should be a lot of fun.
