A few issues came up on the MOT that required attention. We replaced both front wheel bearings, both upper ball joints and the steering column bushes. The new steering column bushes that were supplied were very poor quality so we sent them back and machined some bushes from nylatron.
Mk1 Ford Lotus Cortina, clutch, brakes, service, MOT
This Mk1 Lotus Cortina is in for an MOT, a service and some other issues. The car does very few miles and most issues are related to that. The clutch master and slave cylinders need to be replaced and the brake calipers are getting rebuilt due to stuck pistons. There is an intermittent spark on cylinder 1 so new plugs, distributor cap, rotor arm and HT leads are also getting fitted.
Mk1 Ford Escort RS2000
This very trick Mk1 Ford Escort RS2000 was dropped off for a number of small jobs and an MOT. The 6-speed sequential Quaife gearbox was leaking badly and the idler spindle was completely knackered. Once the gear box was back in place we took the car for an MOT, sorted some other leaks and will be giving it a power run on the rolling road.
XK140 axle repair
The axle in the Mira-Gomes Jaguar XK140 was damaged last year when a half shaft broke. Damge to the bearing surface left us with a little more end float then we were comfortable and its gotten worse. We’ve removed the axle and will be sending it to be machined. The damaged surface will be cut back and a sleeve inserted to restore the original bearing surface.
