Since returning from Silverstone classic we removed the sump to check what has happened to the XK140. It is evident that the bottom end bearings had suffered so the decision was made to pull the engine for further inspection and unfortunately, a rebuild.
Further development for the FIA Mustang
After the initial shake down at Goodwood with Rupert Keegan a few areas were highlighted that needed some attention. The gearbox was tightened up a little. We changed the rear axle ratio from a 3:1 to a 3.55:1. We replaced the front springs with a stiffer set that were custom made for the application. A racing twin point distributor and Moroso coil have been fitted and a new Stack electronic rev counter. On Monday Rupert will be back behind the wheel again to see how the car performs.
Silverstone Classic 2013
Given the weeks of sunshine it looked set to be another glorious weekend at the Silverstone Classic until a monsoon cut short Saturday’s evening festivities. We were support Joao Mira-Gomes and his beautiful Jaguar XK-140. Joao and his wife drive this car from Belgium to the UK on a regular basis to compete in various events. Unfortunately Mira-Gomes had to retire after 40 minutes from the Woodcote Trophy race due to a loss in oil pressure. Photos courtesy of Chris McEvoy.
Austin A35 classic car restoration. Metal work and welding.
This week our classic car restoration expert Ian Goodwright is welding up an A35 shell. The panels have come from Austin Clayton and are very good quality. So far the offside sills are done, the front floors and front panels. Ian will be working on the door hinge panels and nearside sill before moving round to the back.
