Roll cage modification and upgrade to meet FIA and Motorsport UK regulations

Roll cage fabrication and modification

You might be surprised how many race cars have roll cages that do not meet the current regulations from the FIA and Motorsport UK. However, quite often these roll cages can be modified or upgraded to conform without replacing the entire roll cage.

The most common issue we see is poor mounting to the body or chassis. Often with inadequate or missing counter plates for the foot plates. Other issues include poorly design front laterals or missing door bars and rear diagonal bars. Sometimes owners just want to add a harness bar or dash rail for additional safety.

Whether you require a complete roll cage or just some modifications to bring you inline with the regulations, we can help. Most recently we upgraded the roll cage in a Jaguar XK140. We added counter plates and properly attached them to the floor of the vehicle. Next, we remade the front lateral bars so they met FIA and Motorsport UK regulations.

Contact us if you have any roll cage enquiries. We can create a new bespoke cage, modify an existing cage or supply and fit any roll cage from Custom Cages.

BMW 2002tii – Kugelfischer fuel injection on rolling road

BMW 2002tii kugelfischer fuel injection rolling road

This BMW 2002tii, with its Kugelfischer fuel injection, came to us with running issues. Initially the owner wanted to do away with the injection system but we assured him that when working properly, the kugelfischer injection is excellent and will help maintain the value of his original BMW 2002tii.

With the car on the rolling road we were able to diagnose the symptoms that were causing the poor running. The engine was running very lean. Next, we systematically checked the systems settings to ensure everything was within adjustment and operating correctly. The system appeared to be ok so we tested the fuel pressure. Bingo. The fuel pressure was very low. We tested the fuel pump and it appeared to be fine so we turned our attention to the fuel regulator. It was faulty. So, we stripped it down and rebuilt it.

With the car back on the rolling road we could measure mixture from the BMW 2002tii fuel injection under load. The rebuilt fuel pressure regulator did the trick and the engine now had a decent air fuel ratio.

Ginetta G4 lower wishbones – Available to order

Ginetta G4 lower wishbones

We can now supply Ginetta G4 lower wishbones. Due to the current lack of supply in the market we decided to take matters into our hands. We have produced a jig from which we can make new lower wishbones. We have simplified the design slightly and increased the wishbone’s strength.

The first pair of our new G4 lower wishbones is destined for Ian Burford’s 1965 example. Ian races regularly with the HSCC in the Historic Road Sports grid.

If you require a pair of Ginetta G4 lower wishbones we can make them to order. Additionally, if you have any questions please contact us by email or telephone to make an enquiry.
