Motoring journalist John Simister came in for a rolling road tune on his Shorrock supercharged 1959 850cc Mini. The well known and very early mini has just had its supercharger rebuilt and required setting up. The single SU carburettor required some needle profiling to get it just right and in the end produced an impressive 70bhp (flywheel approximation). That’s 1275 territory from a little 850.
Rolling road tuning a very clean Triumph GT6
MGB V8 rolling road tune
Diagnsosis. Triumph GT6 and Jaguar E-type
Two cars with apparent fueling issues in this week. The GT6 ran perfectly well for 20 minutes when it would stop working. We found that the copper fuel line that was running along the engine block was causing a massive vapor lock when it got hot. Changing this fuel line for a rubber alternative and moving it away from the heat source should help. The E-type had some hard plastic fuel lines at the petrol tank, these weren’t sealing properly and allowing the pumps to pull air into the line. You could see the air bubbles in the glass filter bowl. Again fuel lines replaced for rubber.
Fast road MGB
A very recently finished fast road MGB is in to sort a couple of gremlins, tune on the rolling road and MOT. One of the nicest MGB’s we’ve seen in sometime. A Sebring look with stripped out interior and lots of upgrades. Very cool. It has its MOT and is on the rolling road today to get the fueling right and sort out a misfire.
