Our good friend Mark Taylor brought in his recently purchased 1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint for some work. A general inspection was carried out as the owner wishes to use the car for some continental driving. The car is very good overall. The first port of call was a full brake service. We then fitted a 123 distributor with a new coil, HT leads and spark plugs. The carburettors have all been balanced and we’ve now tuned it on the rolling road. The next step will be some upgrades to the suspension, wheels and tyres.
Austin-Healey 3000 ignition woes
We picked up a local Austin-Healey 3000 with some running issues. The engine was cutting out and coughing and wouldn’t go for more than about 10 minutes. The problem was traced to the ignition system. The components looked as though they had not been changed in some time so a new coil, points, condenser, red rotor arm and distributor cap from Distributor Doctor were ordered. Once the parts were fitted and set up it was running sweet. A quick power run and back to the owner.
